Science is a key subject in the curriculum at St Edward’s and we take great pleasure in helping our boys discover the mechanics and chemistry of the world around us.
The Science department is headed by by Dan Cane-Honeysett is a scientist by profession with a PHD in organic chemistry. He personally teaches from Year 3 upwards, but manages the teaching of KS1 science to ensure consistency of the teaching throughout. The lower years are taught science as one subject in topics which tie in with the STEAMED (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, Maths, Entrepreneurship and DT) theme for each term. This approach provides a context for the learning to create a purposeful, inspirational curriculum that really engages the boys. Academic rigour is enhanced, as boys take ownership for their work and can go into greater depth of study in certain areas.
By the time they move on to more challenging science in Prep, the boys are enthused and excited to discover more.
