Supporting an inclusive and culturally enriching environment at St Edward’s Prep through the provision of extra-curricular activities/facilities for the children; and a community spirit through social engagement.
FREDs is a group of enthusiastic parents who are committed to working with the school to raise its profile.
We meet on an ad hoc basis for an informal discussion about ways of raising funds and how best these funds can be used to benefit all the children of the school. We have an open door policy and everyone is welcome to join us at these FREDs meetings. We are always grateful to all who contribute, whatever the level of commitment.
The typical annual FREDs diary encompasses events in which everyone can get involved – Year 6 run stalls at the school Summer Fete, all children have an opportunity to design Christmas cards or other personalised gifts, and get a chance to spend their hard-earned pocket money at the Wonder Woman and Superman gift sales. There are the events where the whole family can get involved, like Sports Day, the Cross Country and the Summer Fete. Lastly we sometimes run events purely for parents (and teachers) such as the famous Curry & Quiz night, wine tasting evenings, pamper parties to mention but a few.
FREDs were very proud to support the Guinness World Record attempt and thanks to everyone’s efforts we collected over 4000 plastic bottles in only a few weeks. It was an amazing achievement. The record was smashed, we made an important statement about the environment and the impact that plastic is having on it, and made the BBC News and Independent Newspaper. Being able to see parents and families back in school following the pandemic to witness the achievement was brilliant, and we know how happy and excited the children were to receive their medals and certificates.
Additionally, other parents may run fundraising initiatives alongside the FREDs events, enabling us to pull resources and funds from varying areas. As you can see we try to cater for everyone at some point during the school year, yet we are always open to suggestions as to how we can involve more of the school community in these activities. Please feel free to email us (firstname.lastname@example.org) with any ideas – especially if you are keen to get involved in the organisation!
Whatever the event, it is important that everyone has fun during these activities and we find they generally bring everyone involved with the school closer together, helping to create a real community atmosphere. In the past the funds raised have been used to purchase specific items needed by the school such as a mini-bus, musical instruments and computer equipment, as well as the wooden play fort in the playground and the hut in the pre-prep play area.
To keep the community abreast of events the Class Reps communicate directly with each Year Group, and it is always worth keeping an eye on the weekly St Edward’s updates where forthcoming events are advertised.
Our new email address is email@example.com. Please feel free to drop us a line with any suggestions or questions. We would love to hear from you.
FREDs also runs the second hand uniform shop and if you would like to order some uniform please click HERE to access their website.
