On Thursday 17 February, we will be attempting and succeeding (hopefully) to break a world record. We will create the longest sentence made from plastic bottles. That’s right! At the end of this half term, if all goes to plan, our school will be a Guinness World Record Holder!

WHY ARE WE DOING IT?

Each half term, our boys and girls study a theme that connects all year groups throughout the school, giving the children opportunities to use their learning to make a difference. It helps them apply what they have discovered and gives real meaning to their learning.

This half term’s theme is ‘Our Planet’ and children have been learning about the impact of plastic on the environment. To raise awareness, and prove that every individual can make a difference – even if you are only 5 years old – we decided to make the attempt on the World Record.

We challenged our children to come up with a strong message that they wanted to send out. The winning entry, from one of our Reception children, was ‘There is only one Earth’. Judges felt it really captured the premise of our term theme and what we’re trying to achieve. Below you can see our plan to arrange all 3,250 plastic bottles on the day!

HELP US COLLECT 3,250 BOTTLES!

We are going to need bottles, and plenty of them!

To complete this record we need our community to help us collect 3,250 clear 500ml bottles with lids by Monday 14 February. You can drop your bottles off at at St Edward’s Prep, 64 Tilehurst Road, Reading, RG30 2JH. Please place them in the sign posted red bin out front. You can call the office on 0118 957 4342 for more details.

WHAT HAPPENS TO THE BOTTLES AFTER?

All donated bottles will be responsibly recycled afterwards. Reading Council are kindly supporting by helping us recycle all bottles the day after the World Record attempt.
