U8A TRI at Brockhurst

On Wednesday the Colts A along with their new medic Owen, went to Brockhurst for a Football tournament.
The boys had a good afternoon winning 3 from 6 games and coming close in two narrow defeats. The boys showed some excellent football at times against some very strong opposition. The highlight of the afternoon was beating Bishopsgate 4-0. Jo played very well in goal and Nathan and Max were solid at the back. The rest shared the goals between them. Dimeji, Oliver and Alex scored two each and Louis got one. Player of the tournament went to Alex for his hard work up front and constant running.

Mr Bovingdon.

Colts B v Thorngrove (A)

A good performance by the Colts B team to register a 3-0 win over a useful Thorngrove team. Special mention to Joshua who was the Man Of The Match. Other useful performances were from Jacob, Yadveer and Alfred. All in all a good team performance.

Mr Jones.

Colts C vs Thorngrove (H)

Well done to the Colts C Team for an excellent match against Thorngrove. The whole team put in an excellent effort from Aedan leading the charge on the opposition’s goal kicks to Jashan who distributed the ball with calmness and pinpoint accuracy. However, Man of the Match went to Mwangi who was excellent in defence and scored the only goal, an outstanding long-range free kick. I was very impressed with the whole team’s ability and style of play.

Colts D vs Thorngrove (H)

On Wednesday the St Edward’s Colts D team played Thorngrove in a seven goal thriller. The St Edward’s boys started off strongly, playing the ball around the pitch with confidence and putting into practise what they had learnt in the pre-match training exercises. Their efforts were rewarded with two goals from Rujul that left the visiting side reeling. Thorngrove however, dug deep and began to make progress towards the St Edward’s goal. Some timely tackles from Vashisht and Joshua prevented them from scoring, but as the half wore on, the Thorngrove side gained in confidence and looked more and more dangerous on the break. The visitors pulled a goal back just before half-time to bring the game back into their reach.

St Edward’s started the second half in the best possible manner with an early goal from Rujul to seal his hat-trick. The game looked to be all over as, with only ten minutes remaining, Thorngrove had a mountain to climb. Their determination and a lapse in concentration gifted them with a goal and suddenly St Edward’s were on the back foot. Another goal from Thorngrove shortly afterwards levelled the score and piled on the pressure for St Edward’s. The final five minutes saw some excellent attacking football from both sides and the match could have gone either way. It was Thorngrove that managed to sneak a goal just at the final whistle, to put a dramatic end to a fantastic game of football. Both teams played in exactly the spirit expected of a Prep School fixture and both sets of coaches were extremely proud of their players. The Man of the Match for his hat-trick was Rujul.

Friday 21st September – U9A vs Brockhurst (A)

The U9As had the experience of playing a 4 match tournament this week. The challenge in tournament football is to be able to adapt quickly to the way different teams play. The boys did this really well and managed to give all the teams they played a good run for their money. The best game was against St Andrew’s in which the boys narrowly lost and had two very good chances that on another day they would have put away. We were not able to get a win on the day but we showed the other schools that St Edward’s never give up and battle until the last whistle. Well done boys.
