Sports Report

Colts A tournament

The Colts A travelled over to Dolphin on Wednesday for a 7-a-side tournament. The boys started very well qualifying for the semi-final with 3 wins. First up we beat Holme Grange 1-0 (goal scored by Oliver). Second game we won 3-0 (two for Oliver and one for Dimeji) against Waverley and the third we won 2-1 (1 each for Oliver and Dimeji) against Daneshill. Again, we were beaten by St Andrews in a game we did not deserve to lose. The boys will keep on improving and we look forward to next week’s fixtures. Player of the tournament went to Nathan.

Colts B vs Papplewick and Reddam

The Colts B headed to Papplewick for a triangular against Papplewick and Reddam House. The first game against Papplewick was end to end and we could have won if it was not for some excellent saves from their keeper. The boys lost 1-0 but should be pleased with the chances they created. St Edward’s dominated the game against Reddam scoring early and peppering the goal with chances. Well done for Josh for scoring another 2, that’s 7 goals for you in 3 games now! Man of The Match was Alfred who worked hard and dominated midfield.

Colts C vs Papplewick

Colts C took part in a triangular tournament with Papplewick and Reddam House narrowly losing to Papplewick 2-0 and drawing with Reddam house 1-1 with Aniket scoring the goal for Colts C. A good team performance all round with good defending from all the lads.
Oliver H was awarded Man Of The Match for a series of good saves while in goal.

Colts D vs Papplewick

The St Edward’s Colts D team faced tough opposition on Wednesday but demonstrated their resilience and teamwork against a strong Papplewick side whose technical skills were matched with some clinical finishing. Despite the uphill battle, the St Edward’s boys dug deep and were able to demonstrate their own skills. Rujul and Sanay were a constant threat and they came close to scoring on several occasions but were denied thanks to some good defending from Papplewick. The Man of the Match was Vashisht for his timely tackles to blunt the Papplewick attack and made some excellent passes to set up the St Edward’s chances.

U8A Brockhurst

The U8A had their first home game of the season with a very close game vs Brockhurst. The boys battled well and worked hard throughout. Alex had a good game in goal and Atharva was solid at the back. Thomas scored a penalty and Man of the match went to Taig who scored from the half way line. Final score was 3-2 to Brockhurst.

U8B & C Brockhurst

The Under 8 B and C team were mixed together to play two matches against Brockhurst on Friday. The second match was a tightly fought contest which either side could have won. Both teams played good attacking football with some good runs and passes being made, but it was the defending that was the most impressive as tackle after tackle was made to thwart each attack. Brockhurst broke the deadlock with a looping shot that took a deflection en route to goal that left the St Edward’s goalkeeper stranded. Undeterred, St Edward’s continued to press the attack and were denied the equalizer thank to some heroics from the Brockhurst goalkeeper. Isaac and Moussa looked dangerous in front of goal and Oliver N provided some excellent throw-ins that the Brockhurst side found difficult to deal with. As St Edward’s heaped on the pressure it seemed inevitable that they would score, but unfortunately they could not quite reap the benefit of their efforts. Football can be a cruel game and this was proven when, in the final minute, Brockhurst counter-attacked and were able to score a second goal to finish things off. The Man of the Match was Oliver N for his excellent tackling and passing as well as his strong throw-ins that were a real thorn in Brockhurst’s side.

U9A v Brockhurst

This was the third time the U9As had played Brockhurst this season. We had won one and lost one so this match was set to be an exciting one. It did not disappoint. After conceding first St Edward’s dominated play. They had many chances. However, Brockhurst were a good team and fought back but Jordan, Kai and Mihai managed the situation well. At half time we were 1-0 down but in good spirits as Ronit looked likely to score every time he got the ball. He did not disappoint and early in the second half, he scored a fantastic goal shortly followed by a long range net buster from Dylan. The whole team were excellent in the game and thoroughly deserved the 1-2 win.

U9B vs Brockhurst

Having had a break from fixtures last week, St Edward’s were a little slow to start. This gave the hosts confidence and they managed to score past us a few times. Felix had a good game and worked hard to play the ball forward and invade the other team’s space. Unlucky boys, better luck next time.
