U8A v Daneshill
The U8A travelled away to Daneshill for a football tournament on Friday.
The boys started slowly but finished strongly.
The first game was a tight game against Princes View which finished 0-0. In the second game we lost to Holme Grange 1-0 but should have got something more out of the game but Thomas and Anirudh couldn’t take their chances. We finished the afternoon with a 3-0 win against Daneshill. (2 goals for Thomas and 1 for Taig) Player of the afternoon went to Oliver B for his excellent saves in the first game.
U9A v St Neot’s
The Under 9As had a fantastic game against St Neot’s. It was a really evenly matched game in which both teams attacked and defended well. Ronit, Luke and Dylan were excellent in attack and put in a good shift in goal. St Neot’s managed to score 2 goals past us but, despite having more than 10 shots on target, we were unable to get the ball in the net. A really promising game though in which the boys played excellently. Jordan was Man of The Match for some excellent defending.
U9B v St Neot’s
Unfortunately, the U9B team went down 7-1 against a skillful St Neot’s side, despite stout rearguard defence from Mihai in goal first half, they went in the break 3-0 down. In the second half, they battled hard and pressured the ball more but unfortunately some lapses in concentration and good finishing from St Neot’s, meant goals piled in. St Edward’s did get the last goal however with the ball bobbling around at a corner for Mihai to finish!
Man of The Match was Mihai.
U8B v St Neot’s
It was a very even and competitive game away at St Neot’s for the U8B team where St Edward’s defended stubbornly. Likewise the same could be said of St Neot’s hence the game finishing with no goals scored by either side. However steady progress and game awareness by St Ed’s were to behold. A fine Man of The Match performance from Alex who controlled the game for St Ed’s
U8C v St Neot’s
On Friday 9th November, the St Edward’s Under 8C team travelled to St Neot’s to play in their first away fixture of the season. The boys were very excited to visit a new school but, despite this, still managed to be on their best behaviour. The match proved to be a very close fought contest with both teams playing some superb football and displaying excellent sportsmanship throughout.
St Edward’s started the match brightly and were able to create a scoring opportunity from the first whistle with Mert striding through the St Neot’s defence and unleashing a powerful shot towards goal. He was denied by a good save from the goalkeeper, but this gave the boys confidence that they carried through for the rest of the game. Jishnu and Rayen worked tirelessly in midfield, snuffing out the St Neots’s attacks and creating chances for our striker, Mert, who was a constant threat to the St Neot’s defence. Tom was resolute in defence making some excellent tackles and hefty clearances. Toby made some super saves and kept St Neot’s at bay. Callum came on as substitute and got stuck in, making some good tackles in midfield.
St Edward’s came close to scoring on several occasions but it wasn’t until the second half that they finally broke the deadlock. Jishnu played a lovely through ball onto an on-running Mert who drilled the ball low to the right-hand side of the goal past the St Neot’s goalkeeper. St Neot’s came back strongly and broke through the St Edward’s defence but were thwarted by Toby’s brave goalkeeping.
St Edward’s finished the match as worthy winners and full credit should go to all of the boys for their work rate and collaboration. The Man-of-the-Match was Mert for his excellent attacking play and composure in front of goal.
