Sports Report for week commencing 19th February

U10A v Papplewick

The U10A team are really starting to show how good they are. They performed out of their skin on Wednesday against a very strong Papplewick side. The final score was 1-0, with the try scored by Dimeji. Throughout the game, the boys really impressed with their defence and the way they stuck together as a team. Max, Jacob and Oliver were excellent as always. Alex, Alfred and Zac backed them up with tackling and rucking. Jashan was amazing when asked to step in for the injured Max. Louis put in some good tackles and made some very good runs.
Well done to the boys, as this week, the whole team were awarded Man of the Match.
Mr Bovingdon.

U10B v Papplewick

The U10B team had a very hard fixture against Papplewick, but the boys stuck it out to the end and were rewarded with a great late try after a strong run from Yadveer to get a score on the board.
Man of the match was Haider for never giving up.
Mr Bovingdon.

U11B v Papplewick

What a wonderful afternoon of rugby held by Papplewick.
The U11Bs played in a trilogy of rugby fixtures against Reddam House first, and then followed straight after by Papplewick.
In our first fixture, the boys showed some fantastic rugby skills in a very close match which we managed to get three tries to Reddam’s two.
In this game, Abeer was fantastic and he scored a try where he ran for over 30 yards with the ball before managing to touch it down on the try line.
In our second fixture, we unfortunately didn’t manage to get the result we wanted. We lost 3-1, but the boys showed fantastic spirit and really dug deep as they didn’t stop tackling and trying to get forward with the ball.
In this game, Josef was called a true warrior by the Papplewick referee, as he just didn’t stop running and making things difficult for the opposition.
Also, a special mention should go to Manaswith for being really strong and using his body well to get through the opposition’s back line. He also managed to get himself a wonderful try, which nearly got us back into the fixture.
It was very pleasing to see this age group developing and playing with smiles on their faces.
Man of the match was Abeer.
Mr Jacob.

U11A v Papplewick

The St Edward’s Under 11 A team played a triangular tournament at Papplewick School last Wednesday. In their first match, the boys played against Reddam House School. The game was played in great spirit, with both teams displaying a high level of determination and strength, but it was St Edward’s that managed to claim victory. They demonstrated great attacking prowess and technique, scoring several tries as well as limiting Reddam House to a single try thanks to some strong tackles and a well-organised defence.
In the second match, St Edward’s faced the hosts, Papplewick, which proved to be a much more challenging game. From the first whistle, Papplewick put their stamp on the match by scoring a try. St Edward’s came close to levelling the score several times but were denied thanks to some determined tackling by Papplewick, who continued to pile on the pressure by scoring at key moments during the game. St Edward’s demonstrated great resilience and continued to play some excellent rugby which was rewarded with a try, but they could not build on this momentum and Papplewick finished the game as comfortable winners.
The St Edward’s boys should be proud of their efforts, their attitude and perseverance on the pitch was exemplary as was their behaviour off the pitch. They played a high level of rugby throughout the afternoon and impressed me with their team-work and determination. The man-of-the-match was Isaac for scoring six tries as well as his tackling and passing skills. Special mention goes to George for scoring his first try of the season!
Dr D. Cane-Honeysett.

U9A v Papplewick

The U9As carried on their strong season with a very good performance against Papplewick.
Owen had a very good game along with Isaac. The team tackled well but unfortunately didn’t take advantage of possession of the ball like they normally do.
Try’s were scored by:
Will, Izak, Joe and Owen.
Man of the match this week went to Joe, who worked hard all game making some fantastic tackles on boys nearly twice the size as him!
Overall, a very good performance.
Mr Bovingdon.

U9B v Papplewick

The U9B rugby team travelled to Papplewick to play their U9B and C teams in two short matches. The first of these matches was against a strong B team and many of the St Edward’s boys gave a good account of themselves in a tough contest.
Mohamed has proven to be the rock around which the team is based. He ran strongly and tackled well to keep us in the match, plus he combined well with Abdulqadir for several of our tries. We were not as strong overall as our opposition however and lost the first game.
In the second match, things were weighted more towards St Edward’s and we ran out winners, scoring many more tries. Two boys stood out for their improvement in this game – Christian for seemingly being able to score tries at will when requested from the touchline, and, Man of the Match – Musa, for his brilliant try and tough tackling. A special mention must also go to Max who, if I had such an award to give, would be awarded the Man of Steel for his resilience and never giving up despite several hard hits.
Well done to all the boys for their efforts on a particularly chilly afternoon!
Mr Morgan-Nash.

U8A v St Mary’s

St Mary’s were a very good team who passed the ball very well. However, it was a testament to our boys’ improvement and the St Edward’s spirit, that it was 4-4 at halftime due to our excellent defence and some great attacking runs.
The game just slipped away from us at the end of the second half but I can honestly say that was the best game the boys had played this term.
The score finished 9-6 but both teams were happy with their performance.
Well done to Dylan who received the Man of the Match award.
Mr Parsons.

U8B v St Mary’s

The St Edward’s Under 8B rugby team played their first home fixture of the season hosting St Mary’s School. The opposition proved to be too strong on the day, but the St Edward’s boys played some excellent rugby and continued to put into practise what they have been taught in coaching sessions. They have made fantastic progress as the season has developed and, despite being on the losing side, the St Edward’s boys played with smiles on their faces throughout the afternoon.
They scored seven well-worked tries during the course of the match and came close to denying their opponents from scoring several times.
The man-of-the-match was Baichen for scoring five tries and demonstrating great work-rate.
Dr D. Cane-Honeysett.
