A passion for learning
Whenever you walk in to the Year 3 classroom there is always a great sense of energy and feeling of enthusiasm and enquiry in the classroom amongst the pupils whether it be Maths, English, Geography or Art the order of the day. It’s clear to see that Di Wilson has a passion for all subjects that she teaches although she will readily admit that she gets ‘really excited about anything art related’ having majored in Art for her teaching degree at the University of Derby.
There is a calm authority about Di and she has a warm and engaging teaching manner that encourages her pupils to do their very best work whether it be learning their times tables to having beautiful hand writing they can be truly proud of. Themes of Investigation have ranged from learning about the Stone Age, writing their own story and turning it in to a book complete with hand drawn illustrations to learning about the Maya Civilisation and in doing so designing and making their very own dreamcatchers.
During the recent national lockdown, Di took online learning on Microsoft Teams in her stride utilising a wide spectrum of technology to help her class to continue to progress despite the challenges that come with a lack of face to face teaching. A structured timetable continued with engaging and motivating teaching, followed by assignments that would then need to be handed in just as they would have been at School.
With teaching experience covering 20 years across both state and private schools in and around Berkshire she has also held a number of leadership positions across Maths, Science and Sport. This wealth of experience has been instrumental in helping our Year 3 pupils to transition from Pre-Prep to Prep and the increased responsibility for their learning and appearance that comes with this. As a consequence under Di’s care, our Year 3 pupils are turned out immaculately whether they be dressed in their school uniform or heading off to Cricket in their whites and school blazer.
Di is married and has two children, their son is a former pupil of St Edward’s Prep and their daughter is now studying at University. In her spare time, Di is a keen artist having loved Art from a young age and runs the after school Art Club. Di is also very much looking forward to getting back to her Yoga classes again
