Looking ahead to senior school

It is incredible to think our Year 6s have just one more term to go at St Edward’s, and then the new and exciting world of senior school awaits.

A significant benefit of attending an entirely independent prep school is that it helps parents keep an open mind about their senior school options, and ensures that, when the time comes, they select a school that really suits their child. For example, we have boys who have been offered highly-sought after grammar school places but who, on reflection, have opted for independent school instead. Ultimately, our aim is to give them that choice, and ensure they are ready for whatever step they take next.

The Reading area is served by a wide range of high-quality grammar, independent and state senior schools, and there are St Edward’s boys at all of them. Although places for this year are still to be formalised, last year’s leavers went to the Reading School, Herschel Grammar School, Reading Blue Coat, Abingdon, The Oratory, Shiplake College, Pangbourne College, Leighton Park School, St Joseph’s and Crosfields, including academic and sports scholarships.

We have strong links with all of these schools, and are very happy to talk through options or offer advice. Wherever they go, St Edward’s boys take with them the strong work ethic, enthusiasm and enterprising spirit that marks them out.
