U8A vs Dolphin

The Under 8As fought really well against a very passionate Dolphin Team. St Edward’s displayed good technical skills and had the majority of possession but small mistakes in the last 5 metres meant that we did not score as many as we should have. The end score was 5-5 with Anirudh scoring a last minute try to draw the game. Overall, a fantastic team effort with Anirudh as man of the match for some excellent defending and attacking.

U8B vs Dolphin

On Friday, St Edward’s under 8B rugby team played against Dolphin. Having not played for a few weeks, I was expecting the boys to be a bit slow to start and hesitant about their positions on the pitch, but this proved to be unfounded. The boys settled into their positions extremely quickly and demonstrated a high level of discipline throughout the fixture. Dolphin were first to score but St Edward’s quickly equalized and then began to dominate the play; breaking up the Dolphin attacks and causing handling errors that they were able to capitalise on. When attacking, the St Edward’s support play and speed of passing created scoring opportunities allowing them to establish an early lead that Dolphin couldn’t catch. In the second half, the focus was changed to passing the ball out to the wings to create space and making sure that everyone on the team had the chance to score a try. Despite this shift in tactics, the St Edward’s boys continued to concentrate and put into practise the skills we had been working on in training. The team performed extremely well and there were many deserving candidates for Man of the Match, but this week for his leadership, determination, passing and strength, the award goes to Alex.

U9B vs Dolphin

Scorers: Nathan*7, Danny*3, Baichen

MoM: Danny Man

St Edwards stayed competitive for large parts of their game against Dolphin, only faltering in the latter stages to go down 16-11

The first half was an even affair, with scoring happening regularly. Nathan got a first half hat trick and with tries from a Baichen and Danny, the score at half time was 7-7.

The second half initially started as the first had ended, with tries coming tit-for-tat. Unfortunately, a few errors from the U9s meant that Dolphin scored tries in 2 flurries and ended up pulling away to 16-11

St Edwards performance was typified by Danny who gave his all throughout and inspired his team mates with his efforts.

U10 vs Reddam

Scorers: Lawale *6, Pappenberger, Swift

MoM: Adhrit, Musa

The home team were unlucky to go down 11-8 after being 8-7 up with 5 minutes left.

St Edwards opened the scoring with Pappenberger wrestling over from close range. This try was the first before Lawale went on to score 4 in the first half, with Swift scoring to make it 6-6 on the stroke of half time.

The second half went a similar way with both teams scoring tries alternatively, a pair from Lawale saw St Edwards go 8-7 up before a few errors cost the boys in Burgundy. A first win of the season!

Special mention must go to Isti who made a cracking tackle and some good passes!

U11B vs Holme Grange

St Edward’s had a fantastic game against Holme Grange. They fought hard in the first half to stay in the game and although they often looked like the better team struggled to link up and work together as well as they have had in previous weeks. They went into half time 3-3 with a last minute of the half try from Nathan. However, in the second half they came out a different team. They worked together, tackled together and their rucking and passing was near perfect. Needless to say we spent the game in the oppositions half and Oliver, Josh M , Rujul and Vashisht all added their names to the score sheet. Final score Holme Grange 20 – St Edward’s 40. Man of the match with two tries and two assists was Nathan. Fantastic!
