Sports Report Week Commencing 4th June

Year 2 v Holme Grange

Selected boys from Year 2 played their very first Cricket fixture against Holme Grange on Tuesday 5th June.
They were an excellent example of how sports should be played and can be very proud of their achievements in winning one game and drawing another.
The boys are all now looking forward to fixtures next term in the Prep School.

Colts A/B v Daneshill

The Colts A team travelled over to Daneshill on Wednesday to play their first game since half term. We didn’t start very well loading Avi, Thomas and Nathan early one. Yadveer again helped make sure we finished with a decent score of 90-8 from 16 overs.
Going into field, we knew it would be hard going. Louis was excellent with the ball, as was Yadveer. Ollie had a very good game behind the stumps, but the game was won by an incredible piece of fielding from Max, who had one stump to aim for about 30 yards out to run out Daneshill’s best batsman. They didn’t come back from that dismissal and only scored 71-9 from their 16 overs.
Man of the match went to Max for his overall game.

8B v St Andrew’s

On Friday 8th June, St Edward’s under 8B cricket team travelled to Pangbourne to play against St Andrew’s. St Edward’s were offered the choice of bowling or batting first. After looking at the pitch and the clouds overhead they decided to put the hosts in to bat. This proved to be an inspired choice as, with the first ball of the innings, Nathan got a wicket with the ball clashing on to middle stump! St Andrew’s managed to claw their way back into the match, despite some excellent bowling and fielding from St Edward’s, and scored a creditable 78 runs in their allotted overs.
St Edward’s struggled a little at first with the bat but soon got into the swing of things when Daniel and Kai came in to bat. Both boys hit some powerful strokes and each scored a four which brought the game back into St Edward’s grasp. However it was St Andrew’s well-organised fielding and disciplined bowling that led to three run-outs in the final few overs and granted them the victory.
The St Edward’s boys played some excellent cricket and have made fantastic progress this term. There were many contenders for man-of-the-match, but for making some fantastic stops in the field and showing great bravery when batting, this week’s award goes to Daniel.

8A v St Andrew’s

The U8A team battled it out in a very close game vs St Andrews on Friday. The boys bowled and batted very well but let themselves down in the field. All the boys bowled well but Thomas was class as was Jordan. Man of the match this week went to Anirudh for his overall gameplay.
The boys are really starting to get he hang of how to play cricket now and we look forward to next weeks game.
