A footballing chance of a lifetime

What a reason to celebrate in Assembly this morning during our weekly Sports Round Up.  One of our pupils at St Edward’s Prep had a very exciting time last weekend and he stood up to tell us all about it!

He was selected to attend the trials for the South of England Prep Schools’ Lions Football Team. 270 children took part and only 18 were selected for the ‘A’ Squad. The selectors found it a very difficult task to choose citing it as the strongest ever turnout for the Prep Schools’ Lions trials.

What an achievement! Now all that hard work and focus means that he has a very exciting 2022 ahead of him.

In January, matches commence against Academies and other regional district sides. Then during the Easter holidays he will attend a training camp to focus on developing his physical, mental and social attributes to support the technical aspects of the game. All of this culminates in him representing England at the The Gothia World Youth Cup in Sweden, the biggest football tournament in the world – even bigger than the Commonwealth Games with 80 different countries attending!

He has been given many sporting opportunities at St Edward’s Prep to flourish and along with the dedication and sportsmanship qualities he exhibits on a daily basis means that he has been given the chance of a lifetime. Mr Bovingdon, our Director of Sport here at St Edward’s Prep is so very proud of him!
