Our thriving Little Griffins Nursery

As the Nursery children walk maturely up the path back to their classroom after break time with their friends, they are greeted by a calm, warm and smiling Mrs Turner directing them to the carpet ready for their morning glass of milk.  It’s also chance to rest for a little after such a fun and active break out in the sunshine with friends.

After some counting songs to practice their numbers, Mrs Turner explains to the children that there are a number of activities laid out for them to do in the lead up to lunch. She encourages them to put their hand up and to confidently offer their choice. This term our theme across St Edward’s Prep is ‘Who are We’ and some of the activities are based around this topic. Will it be smiling in to a mirror, and drawing their faces, using playdoh to design a facial expression with ears, eyes, hair and a nose or counting sparkly jewels to then make a pattern? Dinosaurs often make an appearance and the children are encouraged to get the blocks out to design a cosy a home for them.

A busy morning means the children are always ready for their freshly cooked lunch and they are encouraged by our Chef to try new food, to choose what they want from the salad bar and help themselves to dessert.

Kelly joined us this term as our EYFS Lead Practitioner and with just over a week into the new term she has settled in so quickly and it’s clear to see that the children are so comfortable and happy being with her.

Kelly is passionate about ensuring all children reach their full potential. She has consistently shown professionalism and efficiency in her previous roles and is incredibly well organised. It’s clear to see Kelly enjoys working with parents and keeps a ‘child focus’ at the centre of all she does. She also works very closely with Mrs James who is our Reception teacher and Head of Early Years.

Kelly has a BA (Hons) in Early Childhood Studies from the University of Plymouth with her Early Years Teacher Status and Post Grad Certificate in Early Years from the University of Reading.

Now that our Little Griffins Nursery and Reception classes are co-educational, it’s clear to see that the Nursery will continue to grow and flourish under Kelly’s leadership and evident passion for her teaching.

With our next Open Day planned for the 9th October we are so happy to see so many prospective families booking in to come and experience our warm, caring and busy school and to be able to meet our passionate and friendly staff in person.
