Colts A & B (H) v St Marys
Colts A – On Wednesday, the Colts kicked off their season with a very comfortable win over St Mary’s. The boys played some excellent football during the afternoon. They played great as a team and welcomed Joseph in goal for his first appearance at Colts level. Nathan played very well in defence but was the only boy not to score. Alex, Joseph, Louis and Max scored 1 each, Dimeji scored 2 and Oliver got 3.
Man of the match went to Louis for his work rate and superb passing ability to assist in nearly all the goals.
Mr Bovingdon.
Colts B – Well done to the Colts B for a fantastic first game. St Edward’s played really well and demonstrated great determination and resilience. The game was back and forth with St Edward’s scoring first, only to find the game at 1-1 a few minutes later. St Edward’s kept on fighting and after a few goals from both teams, St Edward’s were just ahead with a nervous 3-2 lead. However, the boys showed composure and started to link together as a team, which was too much for the opposition to handle. An excellent team goal followed by a ‘goal of the season’ contending top corner curler from Josh made it 5-2 to St Edward’s and gave him a hat-trick. All boys made maximum effort from beginning to end and should be proud of themselves. Haider was given Man of The Match for his defensive skills and keeping us in the game with some vital last man challenges.
Mr Parsons.
U8A TRI at Brockhurst
On Friday the U8A team went over to Brockhurst for a tournament. The boys battled all afternoon and scored some excellent goals. The boys managed to win 2, draw 1 and lose 2 games during the afternoon. We managed to score 7 goals during the tournament which Anirudh scored 2 and Thomas scored 5. Well done to the all the boys that played. Player of the tournament went to Thomas.
Mr Bovingdon.
U9A & B vs Holme Grange (A)
U9A – St Edward’s travelled to Holme Grange this Friday to take on Holme Grange and Brockhurst in a triangular fixture. The boys were excellent, showing determination and a positive attitude through both games. It is fantastic to see their progress from last season. They got their first win of the season against Brockhurst and narrowly lost to Holme Grange. Well done to Ronit for an excellent goal and worthy winner of the man of the match award and also to Dylan who had a free kick saved on the line.
Mr Parsons.
U9B narrowly lost both games to schools with larger year groups than ours. The boys performed above expectations and it was encouraging to notice the improvement they have made in the first couple of weeks this term. The Man of The Match awards went to Kai and Dan.

U8 B & C vs Holme Grange (H)
Defence almost holds firm
The B team defended stoutly for their opening games of the season and soaked up a lot of pressure in their four games across the afternoon. They negotiated a tricky first few games, seeing out 0-0 draws against Holme Grange A and St Andrews respectively. Unfortunately, against Holme Grange B they switched off at a corner and slipped to a 1-0 loss. Finally, against Brockhurst, they scrapped for another 0-0. Whilst it is clear that work going forward is needed – Soccernomics will tell you that a clean sheet counts for a lot.
Man of The Match – Atharva.
Mr Arter.
U8C – On Friday 14th September, St Edward’s Prep School hosted an under 8’s football tournament at Sulhamstead Cricket Club. Teams from Brockhurst, Holme Grange and St Andrew’s were invited and some excellent football was played. The emphasis of the afternoon was on teamwork, fair play and having fun in a competitive setting.
For the St Edward’s C team this was their introduction to prep school fixtures and they were very excited to play football against the other teams. The boys got off to a nervy start and found it challenging to play football at match speed in their first game. The boys learnt that football is not just about individual skill, it requires teamwork and that movement off the ball is as important as moving with it. In their subsequent matches, they played with much more discipline and awareness of the space around the football pitch. Both Jacob and Jishnu managed to get into scoring positions but were denied goals by some last-ditch tackles.
The progress that the boys made over the course of the afternoon was impressive. By their final match, they were much more confident on the ball and were able to string together a series of passes. All of the boys impressed me with their enthusiasm, but the St Edward’s C team Man of the Tournament was Moussa for his determination and ability to play in all of the positions requested of him. Well done Moussa!
Dr Cane-Honeysett.
