Sports Report Week Commencing 25th September

27th September – U10B vs Papplewick

It was a lovely autumnal afternoon on Wednesday when the U10B football team hosted their counterparts from Papplewick.
The match was a closely contested affair despite the final score line of 3-1.
Papplewick scored two early goals but St Edward’s improved throughout the game and started the second half with a brilliant goal from Alfred. We were slightly complacent straight afterwards and conceded a soft goal through not concentrating. This was the only moment of poor play by St Edward’s though and the match could, and probably should, have ended in a draw.
Particular mention must go to the tireless effort of Jacob and Haider, plus the resolute goalkeeping from Oliver, but the Man of the Match goes to Mwangi for superb defensive midfield play.
Well done boys.

Mr Morgan-Nash.

27th September – U10A vs Papplewick

On Wednesday 27th September, St Edwards U10A hosted Papplewick. In a very one-sided game, St Edward’s couldn’t find the back of the net. The boys worked very hard all game and created some very good chances. Alex played very well giving the ball easy and defending superbly. Joshua played well in his first ever fixture but man of the match went to Max who was solid at the back. Papplewick created two chances and took them book, something the boys will learn from moving forward.

27th September – U11A vs Papplewick

On Wednesday this week we went to Papplewick to play a triangular fixture against Papplewick and Reddam. After a really tough first half battle against Papplewick we were down 1-0. The boys rallied themselves over half time and came out strong, putting some real pressure on their opponents. Unfortunately, Papplewick managed to get a breakaway goal which sealed our defeat. The St Edward’s boys were keen to get the defeat out of their system when it came to playing Reddam and showed great resilience and a positive attitude. They came out strong and by half time it was 3-0 to St Edward’s with a fantastic, net busting, goal from James. Final score 3-1 to St Edwards.

29th September – U9A vs Brockhurst

On Friday afternoon the U9A team went over to Brockhurst for a tournament. It was a very competitive afternoon of football. The boys stuck at their game and came away losing two, drawing one and winning one. The boys showed real grit and determination and represented St Edward’s excellently.
Player of the tournament was Owen.

29th September – U9B tournament at Brockhurst

St Edward’s U9B played a mini tournament at Brockhurst last Friday against three other schools. In their first match, St Edward’s played against St Andrew’s. The St Edward’s boys got off to a slow start and a mix-up at the back resulted in an early goal for St Andrew’s. St Edward’s gradually got into the game but St Andrew’s proved to be the better team and were able to extend their lead to three goals and finished the game as worthy winners.

The second match saw St Edward’s take on the hosts, Brockhurst, in an epic match similar to the previous week. Brockhurst came out strongly, urged on by the home support, but St Edward’s were up to the challenge; tackling well in midfield and driving forwards with intent. The score-line was nil-nil at halftime but St Edward’s had played the better football. Early in the second half Sanay broke the deadlock with a low strike to the bottom corner and came close to extending the lead a few minutes later with a well-struck free kick. Mohamed also came close to doubling the lead, but his shot rebounded off of the post. Things didn’t go all St Edward’s way as Brockhurst were able to get back into the game and came close to scoring themselves. At the final whistle, St Edward’s had managed to cling on to their slender lead and had won their first match of the season!

The final match saw a tired but enthusiastic St Edward’s team take on Crosfields in a gruelling match. Crosfields got off to the best possible start, scoring straight from the kick-off and St Edward’s were left chasing the game. The St Edward’s boys’ determination got them back into the game and they played some attacking football, but Crosfields were able to weather the storm and score a couple of breakaway goals. The previous two games had taken its toll on St Edward’s but they showed great resilience to keep going until the final whistle and came close to grabbing a consolation goal.

Overall, the boys’ behaviour on and off the pitch was a credit to St Edward’s and they demonstrated many of the School Values throughout their matches. The Man of the Tournament was Sanay for his hard work all afternoon.

30th September – U10 seven-a-side Tournament at St George’s

On Saturday the U10A team went over to St George’s Windsor for a 24 team tournament. We were in a tough group. The first game kicked off and we managed to win 1-0 vs Bishopsgate. (Goal scored by Oliver) the second game we knew would be a lot harder. We matched St George’s for most of the game but they took their two chances and won 2-0. Moving into the last game we knew that we had to win vs Yateley Manor to qualify. The boys produced their best football of the morning and a wonder goal from Louis and another from Oliver sealed our passage to the next round. Final score 2-0.
This meant we went into the quarterfinal and had to play Royal Russell. The game kicked off and we had a few good chances. The teams were very well matched but the run of the green went to the opposition and we were knocked out 1-0.
The boys were superb all morning and I’m very proud of their team work and attitude.
Player of the tournament went to Oliver who showed good levels of captaincy throughout the morning.
