St Edward’s Prep is going co-ed!
We are very pleased to announce that St Edward’s Prep is going co-ed! Girls will be joining our Pre-Reception Little Griffins class from January 2021 and then the Reception class from September 2021.

This move marks an exciting new chapter in the school, coinciding, as it does, with the start of Jonathan Parsons’ headship. Although St Edward’s Prep has been a boys’ school since it was founded in 1947, a move to co-education is not as complete a transformation as might appear from the outside. Our pupils thrive not because they are in an all-boy setting, but because the environment allows the school to respond to each child as an individual.
‘We have thought very carefully before taking this decision,’ says Jonathan Parsons. ‘The school has been exploring the option of moving to co-education for some time, and recently carried out a consultation process with our current families. We are extremely proud of the quality of learning we have always offered to our boys, and of the excellent outcomes achieved by them. However, there has been a shift of opinion in our community, in education and the wider world, that a more inclusive environment, one in which boys and girls work side by side, is better for the development of the whole child both pastorally and academically.’
Over the next few months, the school will be planning carefully to ensure a smooth and successful transition. It will continue to provide the highest-possible quality of education, whether in school or through distance learning where necessary, in an environment that nurtures, supports, challenges and prepares its pupils. In this way we ensure they are ready to move to the next phase of their education with enthusiasm and confidence.
