Year 1 Assembly

On Friday, Year 1 presented an overview of their first half terms learning to the rest of the school. The focus of their learning has been ‘On The Move’, a concept which has seen the children explore their own family histories as well as examine current migration trends around the world.

The children shared art work that reflected where their families have lived, then re-told the story of Hamid, an 8-year old refugee from Eritrea. Having studied several case studies in class and having written their own empathetic stories, the boys were keen to re-enact the unfortunate fighting that had broken between Egypt and Eritrea over the Red Sea and the terrible consequences that ensued.

At the age of 5 and 6, St Edwards boys are beginning to understand the difficulties that people face in our world. Perhaps one day, they will be in a position to make decisions and develop relationships that will bring about greater peace and harmony. They certainly understand and demonstrate the values of tolerance, empathy and respect in their daily interactions; values that are at the centre of the St Edward’s family.

‘We are one, but we are many,
And from all the lands on earth we’ve come,
We share a dream and sing with one voice,
I am, you are St Edward’s family.’
