Year 2 get abstract

Year 2 have been studying the art of Wassily Kandinsky who is a well-known abstract artist. We learned that he was Russian, born in 1866 and that music, particularly opera, helped him create his paintings. He was particularly fond of Wagner, so as we were creating our own Kandinsky inspired works of art, we also listened to Wagner’s opera.

One of Kandinsky’s famous paintings is called ‘Squares With Concentric Rings’ so we had a go at creating our own versions. I think you will agree that they are quite stunning! We also understood what ‘Abstract’ meant, which is using colour and shapes to create an effect rather than attempting to represent real life accurately.
