Author Tom Palmer Visits St Edward’s Prep

“What do you like to read in the newspapers?” Tom

” Criminal activity!” St Eds student

“Me too…. it helps me write better crime stories” Tom

What a fantastic visit from author Tom Palmer! He has written over 45 published books, his titles including Armistice Runner, Combat Zone, Over the Line and we got a special preview of D-Day Dog his new book coming out in May this year!

Tom gave us his top tips for getting inspired to read more, more, more, and how to write engaging and detail rich stories. Tom studied literature at Reading University but said that he struggled with reading books in his early years. His love for reading flourished when his mother noticed how much he loved football so got him reading newspapers and magazines all about football. From there Tom was hooked and still loves reading and writing about football, rugby, war and crime to name a few topics.

Pupils then split up into groups to be treated to a fun and brain teasing quiz, there was fantastic collaboration amongst teams who put their heads together to win points. Tom then refereed a penalty shoot out amongst teams to decide upon a winner!

We were all thrilled to have our books signed and have a quick chat with Tom, it was terrific to host him at St Edward’s Prep and hope that he comes back to visit soon.
