Courage to keep on

HOUSE FOOTBALL

It was muddy, cold and wet. It absolutely poured with rain but this didn’t dampen the spirits of our St Edward’s Teams when they met at Sulhamstead Club for our annual house football event. All players showed great courage as they played in terrible conditions. Even in defeat they held their heads high and smiled. For the Year 3 & 4 final it came down to a penalty shoot out between St Georges and St Patricks. The overall winners for the afternoon were St Patricks – well done!

This term’s games so far

Wednesday 23rd October

Colts A

The Colts A team ended the half term with a very even game vs Waverley. The boys played some good football at times and hit the cross bar 6 times during the first half.
The second have was again very even but we went 1-0 up with a brilliant free kick from Jo.
Waverley got back into the game from some sloppy defending from us.
The game ended 1-1 and man of the match went to Dylan.

Colts C vs Waverley
HT 2-3
FT 2-4

Colts C followed up their victory against dolphin with a very good but tough game against Waverley.

The team that played the first half played very well but found themselves 3-2 down at halftime with another goal from Karthik and a very good goal from Rohan that found the bottom corner. Daniel made some very good saves in goal again this week and was unfortunate to concede 3 with one of them being an own goal.

We then started the 2nd half even better than the first. Ritvik came very close to scoring on multiple occasions. Another solid performance at the back from Darsh that stopped the opposition getting through more times. Mihai wore the gloves in the second half and kept them at bay with some amazing saves and some even better tackles.

MotM
1st half = Karthik
2nd half = Mihai

Friday 8th Nov

U9A St Edwards 2 – 1 St Neots

Tommy, Atarhva, Anirudh, Alex, Jishnu, Moussa,

Taig, Jonny

St Edwards were made to work hard for their win against a resolute St Neots team. After conceding from a fine free kick in the first minute of the game, St Edwards fought back with a set piece of their own. Tommy scored a well-placed shot in the top left-hand corner. Tommy then doubled the lead late in the first half to in at the break 2-1 up.

Despite no goals being scored, the second half was an exciting affair full of half chances for both teams and it took a man of the match performance from Jishnu in goal to keep the visitors at bay

U8A

U8A team travelled over to St Neots for the annual 6-a-side tournament.
We started the afternoon of well winning a tight game 1-0 vs Princes Mead. The goal was a wonderful strike from Alex.
The second game was a harder test but we defended expertly and managed to school 2 goals late on to win 2-0 vs Cheam. This was our best performance of the afternoon beating a very big school. One goal each for Max and Harrison.
Last game on the group stage was a little easier vs Daneshill. We came out 5-0 winners. 2 goals for Alex and one each for Max, Harrison and Gabriel.

That meant we won the group and went into the semi-final vs Eagle House.
We didn’t really have the rub of the green in this game and didn’t take the chances and even though we were the better team the final school was 2-1 to Eagle House. Goal scored by Alex.

Player of the tournament went to Alex who for me was the best player at the tournament.

U9s B vs St Neots

HT 0-1
FT 1-1

A very good game between two evenly matched teams.

St Neots opened the scoring just before half time with a very good individual goal, where the player weaved round the defence and smashed it into the roof of the net.

Iefan had a chance just before this but the keeper made a sublime save to stop St Edwards scoring.

We started the second half the better team and had multiple chances that we missed. Darsh then scored a brilliant goal by using his strength to hold off a defender as he was dribbling the ball, he then finished off the run by slitting the ball into the bottom corner and giving the keeper no chance.

MotM – Isaac
Isaac had a phenomenal performance with some excellent defending with some impressive tackles. He also had a large impact for the team going forward with some very good passes allowing us to keep the ball and move up the pitch.

Wednesday 13th November

Colts A

The team were excited to play against Yately Manor for the first time. The game started with so much pressure from St Edward’s but unfortunately Yately scored a breakaway goal. St Edward’s fought back and soon leveled the game and the game went end to end for the rest of the half. It was 3-2 at half time to Yately and we were very much still in the game. Yately came out strong at half time and scored two quick goals. After this St Edward’s pulled themselves together and battled back. We entered in to an end to end goal scoring spree with the final result ending 8-4 to Yately.

Man of the match Luke but Ronit and Izak were also players of note.

Mr Parsons

Colts B

The Colts B team had very close and competitive game vs Yateley Manor losing 2-0. The teams where very well matched and the St Edwards boys battled hard all game. They can be very proud of their overall team performance.

Stand out player of the match was Musa.
